TILLAMOOK COUNTY LIBRARY CLOSURE UPDATE DUE TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS

On March 25, 2020, the Tillamook Board of County Commissioners voted to send non-essential county employees home for two weeks, from March 26 – April 8. This was later extended until further notice.  This will extend our library closures until further notice.

All items checked out from the Tillamook County Library have been renewed until June 1, 2020. There will be no overdues or fines during this closure. We ask that you do not return your library materials until we re-open. Please do not loan your library materials to other people in order to reduce the spread of germs.

In lieu of services at our library locations, please take advantage of our large “virtual library” online. Through our website (www.tillabook.org) you can access much information and entertainment from the comfort of your own home. We have audiobooks, e-books, movies, TV shows, music, graphic novels and more for you to enjoy without even stepping out of your house. You can even learn a foreign language using our Mango language learning system.

We are raising the number of items that can be checked out from our virtual library and we have now added 56 digital magazines you can check out on a new service called Flipster.

Please feel free to call us at 503-842-4792 to leave a message with any questions. We will be returning phone calls as quickly as possible.

If you have further questions, please call the library or email the director, Sara Charlton, at charlton@co.tillamook.or.us.

TILLAMOOK COUNTY LIBRARY ANNOUNCES THE CLOSURE OF ALL LIBRARIES AND PROGRAMMING RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS

On March 12, 2020, Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, issued Executive Order No. 2005 prohibiting large gatherings due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The order prohibits large social, spiritual, and recreational gatherings of 250 people or more across the state. Governor Brown has ordered the implementation of social distancing measures recommending the cancellation of events hosting more than 10 persons in high risk populations. The Governor has also closed all school is the State of Oregon. In compliance with these measures, and in following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Library Association, the Tillamook County Library has decided to close all its facilities effective immediately, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 5:30 pm. This includes libraries in Tillamook, Manzanita, Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Bay City, Pacific City, and the county Bookmobile. The library plan is to reopen on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, but we will reevaluate the situation at that time and adjust our plan accordingly.

We are raising the number of items that can be checked out from our virtual library and we hope to be adding an online magazine database called Flipster.

Our staff will still be coming to work so please feel free to call us at 503-842-4792. We can still answer reference questions, help with our virtual library and help in any way we can. If you have further questions, please call the library or email the director, Sara Charlton, at charlton@co.tillamook.or.us.

We are expanding our curbside hours beginning Wednesday, July 1st to 12pm to 5pm.  Also, we will no longer be scheduling strict time slots.  While you are still welcome to call ahead to place items on hold, you can now come to pick them up anytime between 12 and 5pm.  Give us your name and card number, then wait patiently outside for us to grab your items from the holdshelf and check them out to you.  We will bring the items to your vehicle.  For everyone's safety, we will strive to make this service contactless.  Read the FAQ's.

To request a book or other materials, please call the library you wish to use.  You can also place holds online using our catalog, found at encore.oceanbooks.org.  You will have access to all of our participating libraries. Pickup methods will vary from branch to branch.  At Tillamook, drive to the back book drop area and park in the numbered spots.  Staff will have your items in a bag, and all buildings will remain closed to the public.  Staff will wear gloves and masks.

Beginning Monday, August 3rd, book drops will be open 24 hours a day at all locations.  Returns will be kept in quarantine for four days to prevent virus transmission.  Items will remain on your account for this extra time, so we will not be charging overdue fines at this time.

If your branch doesn't have the title you're looking for, ask us for recommendations!  Librarians can help you find your next great read if you give us an idea what you need.  Miss Melanie will be happy to design a book bundle for your kids!

We'll be working out the kinks, so please bear with us as we move forward into this next phase of reopening.
